To keep my blocks from getting mixed up when chain piecing I have small squares of scrap fabric that I have written numbers on. When I chain piece several blocks that are laid out on separate design boards each board gets a numbered fabric square. When I start chain piecing I use the numbered square as my leader. Then I sew the block piece together and when I move onto the next design board block I sew in the next numbered square so I know this section all belongs on board 2 and so on.

For chain piecing, I recently made my daughter a pillow out of the cut offs of the half square triangles from the quilt that I also made for her. There were 142 squares finishing at 2 inches. I laid them out in rows on a design board like Pat showed in this video. Then took each it to the sewing machine. I started at the bottom left to right for the 16 squares in each row. When i took them off the machine I counted out the first 16 that I had sewed and laid them back in their row on the design board, while those 16 were still attached to each other. Then i cut off the next 16 and laid them out. I had them placed how I wanted them in color so they had to stay in order. I cut the rows individually apart as I was pressing them open and laid them on another design board. I hope this makes sense and helps.

I love your fabrics in the Sewcialites blocks.

When I chain piece, I only do what I know I can handle. For a block I haven't done before, I will piece one block by itself so I understand how it goes together. Rarely do I chain piece a whole quilt unless it is very simple.

For those who follow Lori Holt she usually has a side project that she works on and does those pieces in between her current project and as soon as the current project moves past the presser foot she clips the thread and puts on the project board for current project. Lot of times it’s little four patches or half square triangles that she sees on for a future project.

I love how the needle minders look hanging on your wall.😊

I have been chain piecing for years. And when I chain piece, I only chain piece one block at a time. This may require doing some of the instructions out of sequence to allow me not to break thread. As I chain piece, only I remove the piece directly behind what is currently under the presser foot. For some Lori Holt patterns, I do keep what pieces of the alphabet I am sewing so I know exactly where they go in the block. The three biggest helpers are design boards or design wall, and a homemade alpha bitties set ( made from saved bread tie plastic pieces with the letter written on it. I am currently building 91 patch scrappy blocks for a triple irish chain. Even though there are 91 pieces to the block Usually I keep to the layout of the block on the design wall, without sewing seams together in the wrong order. I have young children who are hobby interruptors which sometimes causes me to use the seam ripper. But I finish the block before I walk away so I keep it straight in my mind and sewing correctly. And don’t be afraid of chain piecing and messing up. Most of these seams are less than 9 inches

If I’m the one who asked the question about the rolls of interfacing, I’m trying to figure out how to stir things in my sewing room. We have moved and I went fro a 12 x 15 space to an
8 x 8 size room. It’s really bad.

It’s funny to hear you talk about your hair this morning. Yesterday I was binge watching some of your older videos while I sewed and remembered your before Covid color. I really like the “au natural” that you now have. I wish I had taken the plunge like you did! One day I’ll get up the nerve!

Thank you for answering the question about prewashing or starching fabric in a kit. I ordered the butterfly kit and pattern and was wondering about prewashing. I had already decided not to prewash and appreciate your confirming that decision. This is the first kit I have purchased and am looking forward to sewing along with you on the quilt.

Ive never seen rolls of interfacing like those. It was a fair question. They looked like medical table paper rolls to me.

Snapdragon is coming out very nice! I was thinking it would need a great pattern to showcase an assortment of batiks!

I sympathize with the “needing a haircut” . It’s always amazed me that one day your hair is OK and the next you wake up and you are just over it…lol. I don’t get why it seems to happen overnight, but I know it will be beautiful when we see you tomorrow! Love the blocks you are making for sewcialites.

For Vicky’s question from my perspective that’s how I keep all my supplies for the embroidery part of my Solaris. That’s for me when I hoop a machine embroidery project. You don’t use the embroidery part of your amazing machine, so she hasn’t seen you use that part of your machine. They look like stabilizer’s for the embroidery hoop stitch out.

I thought the rolls were rolls of paper, like butcher paper or something
