Started IRC-ing in 1992 with BitchX, Still use it. When I switched to Ubuntu from FreedBSD I installed KVirc. I use KVirc as my primary client and my BitchX clients as idlers. I'm a Oper on Efnet and KVirc does a good job.

irssi on linux. on windows i use putty to SSH into the linux box and use irssi <_<

AmIRC is my fave client, for AmigaOS. Im writing a mobile IRC client lib now to let people add IRC to any mobile app with one line of code :)

*Quassel IRC* is great. Quassel IRC is a modern, cross-platform (Windows, Android linux, GNU Linux, , OS X) distributed IRC client, meaning that one (or multiple) client(s) can attach to and detach from a central core. I don't use that functionality currently though.

The only problem I have with it is that it seems to inflate in memory use over time if you leave it running for a long time (weeks/months typically, depending how many chats you have open, and how active each chat is).

The reason I like it is that it has all/most the big things most people would want in a IRC program: unicode support, multiple server support, chat log support, automatic name coloring of users, unified tab line that separates names from messages so that they're all aligned, notifications, cross-platform, free, can be portable (although I guess most programs can be).

I used to use HydraIRC which I loved, but it doesn't support unicode, and it's development has been abandoned. It's also Windows-only.

I m unable to connect Dalnet in xchat as well as hexchat, its says connection reset by peers or remote host closed socket :( how to go about it???

mIRC via WINE on Arch Linux here. I can't say for certain that it's 100% compatible, but I've yet to find anything with mIRC + WINE that is Windblows-only.

You need to mention ircle for mac and Invision plugin for mIRC. Have you tried HydraIRC?

Maybe someone can help me. I'm a noob to all this but I'm trying to figure stuff out. when I went to download mIRC everything went fine, but as soon as I tried to enter into a chat I received a message that said I failed sasl authentication. I googled what to do next but nothing I've tried works. I'd appreciate any guidance

XChat is somewhat discontinued - better go for it's fork hexchat…

Thank you Shannon! As a First time Chat user on Windows I am going to try mRIC. I want to make sure it is encrypted though - any suggestions on where I can get video documentation (GOOD DOCUMENTATION), on how to make sure I am anonymous and secure using this tool? My best!! Love your video!!
