An urban plan meant to better protect the cultural heritage in the centre of Beijing was unveiled on August 30, 2020, Chinese state media reported. The “core area” covers the Dongcheng and Xicheng districts in the capital city. The plan for the 92.5 sq km (38 sq miles) area puts an emphasis on the preservation of historical sites in old Beijing, including narrow alleys called hutongs and traditional courtyard houses called siheyuan.

Better late than never, protect these structures so our children can know the history instead of concrete and glass fortress that is the modern city.

It's only right! With China's rich cultural history they should be doing their best to preserve old ancient architecture, if not then China's cities would just become like every other city with its glass and steel buildings.

China and the Confucian cultural sphere must regain their respective national styles to replace the endless spread of internationalism. Cities like Kyoto doesn't even look Japanese anymore. Beijing must cherish its central historic district within the 2nd ring road, if possible, I'd even suggest rebuilding sections of the Beijing city war along the 2nd ring road. City walls are always great attractions, like those in Xi'an and Nanjing.

Should have done so 12 years ago. Many hutongs were shortened or completely destroyed before Olympics.

I'm so happy that China is starting to care for its 6000 year old history

That's a scene in China they talk about.
If you want to see the past, Beijing is your place.
If you want to see the present, Shanghai is your place.
If you want to see the future, Shenzhen is your place.

Its heartbreaking to see a city so rich in history to have little to no remains. Glad that this initiative is being taken!

People's life quality has higher priority than architecture protection. Some blocks should be protected but all others should be torn down.
The city is its people's city not traveler's city.

Historical sites won't be allowed, since it is the National treasure designed to preserve the serenity of time from the site, also to protect the traditional standards of excellence. BRICS, thank you
