In this first of what will now be THREE episodes, I discuss the progression of Jobson's career, beginning with Fat Grapple, Curved Air, his time with Roxy Music, Frank Zappa, the formation of the band UK and the release of the self-titled 'UK' album. This album had a stellar line-up of musicians, being Eddie Jobson, Allan Holdsworth, John Wetton and Bill Bruford and is very highly regarded as a 'classic' prog. rock album. The music from this album is presented almost in its entirety here.

I do wish I had received more recognition and appreciation for my work on this iconic U.K. album. It was 'self produced' by the band which puts a massive demand on the recording and mixing engineer - and we used a lot of fascinating and experimental recording techniques to create the unique sound of this album. So delighted to have been an important part of it. SWT

One of the greatest debut albums of all time. As a massive ELP fan, this was the route I wish they had taken.
Both U.K. studio records and the live Night After Night are magnificent .
What a band !

30 years and Nevermore are 2 of the best ever written songs by ANY band.

I knew Eddie when we were both young children, I am pretty sure we played in the same orchestra. My mother was his accompanist for ABRSM violin exams - from memory he completed them all up to Grade 8. He kept in touch with my mother until she died last year; a genuine man who never forgot his roots.

Eddie Jobson and UK are one of many reasons why I decided to become a professional musician. All three UK albums, Jethro Tull “A”, Zinc “The Green Album” and then Eddie’s solo albums are timeless. Masterpieces of composition in prog-rock idiom. I used to transcribe note-by-note as much I possibly could, learned great deal of music theory by doing that, and to this day these compositions give me chills... RIP. John, Alan... Excellent video ! One of the best ever about Eddie Jobson and UK. Thanks for posting Mr. The Yak 😊 You rock ! The Soho story in “Nevermore” truly touched my heart - I didn’t know about it, thanks for bringing that up 😢 Typical corporate idiocy and greed...

I was at Tower records in Campbell California during my sophomore year. I was a drummer in a band and a total Prog head. Was buying the Fish out of Water Cassette and heard the UK album on the speakers in line. It was In the Dead of Night suite and I heard Bruford's roto toms cutting across the noise in the shop. I got out of line and and just went to the corner of the store where the speakers were!! Holy crap, that was a memorable night and just a mind bender. Had to go home and get more money to buy the album!! One of my top 5 ever!! Nice Video!! Thank you

Fabulous and thanks Tom, this was dying to be made..in my humble opinion the debut UK album sits right up there with the similarly eponymous ELP in capturing that lightning in a bottle effect, and helped along with the perfect rhythm axis of Wetton and Bruford, it could hardly fail ..the jazzicize of Bill and Allan with Dave Stewart and Jeff Berlin was more of a triumph for me than danger money, which although every bit at technically competent as it's predecessor appeared to me to be missing that X factor that made UK(1) the supergroup effort to close the 70s...
Really looking forward to the second part...oh, and maybe (just maybe) a doc on Triumvirat, well, a chap can dream can't he ..😂

On my first hearing I thought that “Nevermore” and “Mental Medication“ were the weakest tracks, compared to the rest.
However, after continuous plays I grew to love these two wonderful pieces of music, haunting vocals and beautiful, atmospheric keyboard work from Eddie Jobson.

A great in depth look at UK and their self titled debut, what an amazing album it was, a true supergroup and even though the band didn't last long, they delivered a true masterpiece. Nice to also see Eddie Jobson get some well deserved love who has kind of become one of the forgotten people in prog which is a shame as he's made some unbelievable contributions to the genre and is a very talented musician. Brilliant retrospective

Thanks for putting this together!! The UK album has always been exceptional for me and very influential as a composer of fusion/prog rock for the last 20 years. Thanks again!!

Wonderful story about Eddie and UK one of my top 3 bands. Eddie was so...unbelievable, I learned so much from this video. I do wish Marco used roto toms though. They do add so much to the aggressive cutting sound of the drums and true to the music. The stars did align forming this band. I knew they'd be short-lived much to my dismay. RIP John and Allan. 2 of the greatest. When UK opened for Tull I somehow scored front row! I do believe you get what you deserve.
