My problem is that I don't believe that humans are inherently good. I distrust fair trade initiatives because I see their efforts reflected in more expensive products, but not necessarily an improvement in quality of life for the people whom these producers source their materials from. I'd like to believe that this is something done out of the good of their hearts, but the only sure thing in all of this is that the producers need to be profitable. I suppose it's just difficult not to be cynical about these things.
