Dmitri Shostakovich The Second Waltz from Jazz Suite No. 2 in my piano transcription :
FOLLOW ME :
Though the exact date of its composition is unknown, it’s linked to the creation of the State Jazz Orchestra of the USSR in 1936. To build a diverse repertoire, the orchestra turned to composers like Prokofiev and Shostakovich. Initially, artistic director Matvey Blanter thought the waltz didn’t sound jazzy enough. After some adjustments, he was amazed by the piece. In 1988, this beautiful waltz returned to the stage at London’s Barbican Hall, conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich. It also gained fame in Stanley Kubrick's last film, ‘Eyes Wide Shut,’ performed by the Royal Netherlands Orchestra.
