Lesson Objectives: To be able to understand the concept of stellar parallax in astrophysics. To be able to explain the origin of the parsec (pc) and how it is derived from stellar parallax. To be able to understand the parallax angle and how it demonstrates the apparent movement of a star relative to the background.

Description: In this video I outline the concept of stellar parallax and how it is used in astrophysics. I start of with an easy example using my thumb and then tie it in with observations in space. Look carefully at the parallax diagram as I explain the origin of the parsec (pc). The parsec is a unit of distance which is equal to 3.08*10^16m
