There are so many ways to build mantels, but so little information out there on them. Especially a traditional build like this with an over mantel. I truly wanted to document this and put it out there to help anyone who wants to build a mantel. While no two mantels are really the same, I feel this video can serve as a general guide to get you started in the right direction. I learned a ton on this job and I am happy to share it with you here. I really hope this helps someone! Here are the chapters below:

Moulding Nerd trivia- that little strip that acts as a support moulding under the frieze is called a taenia with the architrave underneath. I just knew that my college class on Greek architecture would be useful someday…

All the layers, all the lines, ... That is a work of art you do not see recreated in houses anymore. Very nice

Great Vid! Ran into you at the store today. Didn’t want to take up to much of your time.

Your passion is contagious, man!

You and the other guy should sign and date it somewhere - maybe out of sight or even underneath the main mantle top or something?

Maybe even a newspaper and a thumb drive with the video on it stuck inside for a future generation

As I said before Richard, you are a master in the making and I am happy I’ve been around to watch your work. That mantel looks amazing and it’s not even finished, can’t wait.

I haven’t watched your videos in a long time, but after following Brent, as well as Passion for Craft it’s led me back to your channel. I can’t get enough! How often does Brent pop in to check your work or does he leave it all up to his PM’s? That’d constantly have me on edge 😂

It's pretty cool that you and Hull got hooked up- it is giving you a whole new dynamic to your trim work. Looking forward to seeing what projects are in the future.

Holy hell. That is a peice of art. I don't know, Grasshopper, ... I think you're ready to snatch the pebble from Brent's palm. Anyone who've watched TV shows in the mid 70's will get the reference. 😂. Also, the opening drone footage was Top Notch! Kudos to Scott

I love how that drip edge actually acts as a larger shadow line. It makes it look like the upper mantle is floating. Very cool
