In this cover of Sting's song, I am hearing a little bit of the magic of the voice of Roberta Flack. Even Sting who wrote and performed this song said this is his favorite interpretation of the song, which is part of the magic that is her talent. She almost is not a cover artist, but an uncover artist that gives us an even purer interpretation of a song and makes it her own

She didn't write this song. Sting (The Police) wrote it, but has conceded that her version was the way he always ways intended it to sound.

You are right. Every time I hear her voice I AM stopped in my tracks. You're probably already aware but once Sting (who wrote and recorded this song) heard her version he basically said now it's her song - this is how he imagined it. And he helped spread the word amongst his fellow musicians about the beauty of her voice and musicianship

She didn't write this song it was written by Sting and he hated anyone doing their "version" of it, until that is he was "made" to listen to Eva's rendition and he was blown away. Sting said that this song held a special place in his heart. She is incredible.

Eva Cassidy was so incredible what a voice and talent. It was such a tragedy and loss to the world when she died of cancer at only 33 years old in 1996, but her music will forever live on. Some other recommendations are Danny Boy, Time After Time, Autumn Leaves, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, What A Wonderful World, Songbird. Thank you for your reaction.

Always good to see someone discover Eva. They’ll be lots of suggestions for her versions of Over The Rainbow & Autumn Leaves but don’t sleep on her blues, jazz & gospel work. “Chain Of Fools” “Wade In The Water” or “Stormy Monday” the lady could knock it out. Gone too soon, never forgotten.

You nailed it! Her voice literally stopped me in my tracks—was on vacation and went into a souvenir shop and this was playing. They didn’t sell videos there so I had to wait until I got home. That was 20 years ago—I have all of her cds now and never get tired of listening to her. Her cover of Over the Rainbow is stunning too.
