I am not surprised Aljazeera would be critical of charlie since they are from Qatar, which is not known for its freedom of speech and religion. Churches in Qatar cannot have bells, or any christian signs or crosses exposed on the exterior. Yet they have the courage to criticize the way other countries accept other religions...

Hate speech against ethnic and religious groups is not covered under the freedom of press in france and many

I agree that you can oppose the murder of these cartoonists _without_ being in support of all their work.  However, it's really galling to say that making cartoons that offend people is roughly as "uncivilized" as _murdering_ people because they made cartoons you didn't like (not to mention murdering other people who had nothing to do with the cartoons).

The idea that free speech should be limited in any way is deeply misguided.  WHO AMONG US will decide what pictures people are allowed to draw, or what opinions people are allowed to voice?  In a free society, we're free to say or draw what we want, and free to read what we want as well.  When people say offensive things or make offensive cartoons, we're free to identify them as such, but to lock people up for "hateful" speech (let alone _murder_ them) is something we shouldn't tolerate.

I was wondering about absence of Putin & Obama and silence of Al Jazeera.

Who or what agency will take responsibility for judging what is crass or unacceptable?  Do we muzzle comedians, entertainers, or the press and if we do who will do it?  The Islamists in Nigeria are killing people by the thousands right now, but I guess it is wrong to satirize these religiously motivated terrorists.  The world is composed of different parts with different cultures and hopefully that will always be true.  I personally take the irreverence of Hedbo in stride and certainly cannot justify the sanctity of my opinion to someone with a different perspective and furthermore think it is wishful thinking that any single paradigm can be instituted let alone maintained.  With no wish to be irreverent, 'c'est la vie'.

Nothing funny or nasty should be said about dead people as they will not be able to defend for themselves...which is their right to do so.
RESPECT TO THE DEAD PLEASE!

Still have not seen a serious journalistic piece about Islam and the idea of blasphemy. Everyone feels free to critique the cartoonists, no one is critiquing Islam in a thoughtful, journalistic fashion. This, it seems, is a victory for the terrorists.

Is this a smear video on a magazine that doesn't do any more than draw cartoons? As a part of the media, I thought you would be better than that, AJE. Shame.

"Satire is supposed to mock the powerful."
I don't think you understand satire, AJE. It's meant to mock those worth mocking. If a group of people think they or their deity is above mockery, and will use violence to push that agenda, then that group of people is WORTH mocking.

Muslims (and Christians, and Jews) have the right to be offended by the cartoons. They also have the right NOT to be offended. If you don't like the cartoons, roll your eyes, and look at something else like the rest of the civilized world.

One day EVERY body will be FREE to say and do what they want...just that this freedom must have some understanding how the other perdon might feel....do Free to draw cartoonists must always just make us laugh...how about draw things that make us think ponder and cry?...or try to understand and take in that also there will be critics who will not understand ...why not make use of the Liberty they have to make this world a better place....

Did I just watch a 10 minute propaganda film? Striking similarities between this video and Fox News. You can do better than this Al Jazeera.

Well - if I think Buddhists would take revenge on damaging Buddha statues even if you subjective feeling is hurted you cannot go with gun and practice self justice.
One should know France has a strict division between religion and law. Religion is not on top, on the other hand the image of islam is propagaded by IS, Al Kaida etc.
