What I love about the person who made these videos is that he really worked hard to teach us.
I'm so thankful.

if i actually had this guy for physics, id be doing much better. Too bad i found him a day before my final :)

It can also be meausred in tons, like how pressure is measured

Then, since the 100mph vector was in the vertical direction (assuming the wind is travelling in the opposite direction) you would subtract 21.3mph from 100mph to get the final resultant, which would be about 78.7mph (so your guess was pretty close).

noice. good example now i know vector subtraction and basically how planes calculate and correct for wind

If you draw properly, you will get a 90 degree triangle and you can measure the length by using Pythagoras theorem.

Wait.. this is still vector addition. You didn't reverse any vector indicating direction change due to the negative sign from subtraction.

One quick question, so does it mean the plane is heading straight north in the speed of 80mp/h, or in the direction between north and east in the speed of 80mp/h?

So, the direction it's going to move the stump is 130 degrees, with the power of 130 tons ?

can you use geomerty to figure it out. it made a triangle. just saying

Don't tell him to make videos for a series on another video series.

You will also going yo need a protractor??

This is not vector subtraction. This is vector addition with vectors going different direction. Video is nonsense.

For any one who is confused with the numbers shown in this video:
When drawn on a graph, the line pointing north to represent the plane should be 4 cm long, and the line facing south east to represent the wind should be 1 cm long because the wind is going 1/4th of the speed that the plane is going, which means the line needs to be one fourth of the length of the planes line. When the head of the winds line is connected with the tail of the planes line, it should be 4.5 cm long, which is equal to 112.5 mph.

You're videos are awesome and I understand you really well although I'm in year 6.

is the pilot´s job to find out the speed and velocity of the wind before the plane can take off

I didn't see any difference between the subtraction video and addition video. All I saw was that the lines were pointing in different directions...

i need more of this, more newton, more vectors, i need all your physics knowlige.
your explaination makes it easy.

so whats the formula
its the only thing im confused with

mlo

That is NOT vector substraction, that is vector addition. Vector substraction is when you connect the two tails to each other, search it on the internet...
