How will Chinese kids look at you? Will they be surprised if you speak Chinese? How about if you speak perfectly, will you still be an alien to them? Will the kids react the way you think they will or will you be more shocked than them?

My wife and I visited China in 2005. We went to Beijing and Nanchang. A trip to be remembered for lots and lots of reasons. We returned home with a little chinese girl. Now she is nineteen, and the pride and joy of her dad.

Hahaha, I've had kids following me around while streaming too. One little girl realized I was pointing to things and saying what they are in Chinese, and she started joining in and correcting my mistakes. It was so cute! 太好笑了!

I've lived in China 4 years and kids stare at you, it's just out of pure curiosity. I've never had any negative reactions from people, it's always friendly. You can get treated like a celebrity at times. Your Chinese is excellent btw.

I taught English in Japan back in 2006, 2007 and this brought back so many fond memories. Thank you. I was back in Japan Oct 2023 and ran into a past student of mine. We had such a wonderful time and reliving our memories.. keep up the great work.

True story: Years ago my husband was working on a job site and he would stop at this little Chinese grocery store. One day he noticed there were a few kittens hanging around their shelves Seeing we were longing for a calico and they had one, he approached the mother, father and little boy and asked if he could buy one. He came home that night and we agreed to taking their calico kitten. So he went the next day after work and they had everything ready, from kitten food, a box and some kitten toys. As my husband was leaving with new kitten in tow their little boy comes up to my husband and said; Don't forget Mister, she only speaks Chinese." I've been laughing at that line ever since. 😂 Too cute. We had her for 12+ years before she died of heart failure. She was a beauty.

I had a lot more kids say hello to me in China than in Japan. In general, the children of both countries were more likely to talk to me than teens or adults.

Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and now Cantonese. Allrighty then! Striving to be the GOAT of Asian languages, are we?

Children make the best language teachers! They have a sense of humour over mistakes and are very happy to help you learn.

The way that you interact with little kids is so wholesome and adorable!! You also sound so fluent in Chinese and Japanese. This is really motivating me to learn foreign languages. I hope to be this fluent someday.

How sweet of them. Very kind, beautiful terms of endearment 'auntie' 'sister'.
I'm always struck by how happy and beautiful they are.

The difference being. There's no hatred in their heart. ❤

Here I am showing my age - I travelled to China with my sister and a friend in 1984! It was just opening up to tourists and the only way to travel was in an organised tour group. Needless to say we were surrounded by the Chinese people eager to speak to us and practice their English- mainly adults the children were too shy to approach.

Welcome back from China! I hope you had a great time and by the looks of the video you definitely have. The kids are so kind and just wanted to connect with you. I bet their day was made and they told all their friends that they talked to an American. You're such an anomaly to them they just can't resist finding out what you're all about with a friendly conversation 💜

I worked for a Chinese owned company for a couple of years back about 10 years ago, so had to make several business trips up there from Australia. Mostly I stayed in the centre of the cities I was in, but occasionally had to stay in areas that had less contact with the west. It was in these places that I caused the most stir, mostly like you, by being followed by numbers of kids who wanted to engage with me and practice their English. Very cute. They were also fascinated by the fact that I had fairish hair and blue eyes.

What an awesome message. "We're all kind of saying the same things." I don't know why but that really affected me. 😅

That was so cute (and hilarious) when that little 4 year old told you you're on Earth! 😂

You brought so many smiles to all those children that day. You were so kind to them and gave them a beautiful memory that will be with them forever. God bless you! 💗😊

I've learned from my time in Japan that kids are more open when it comes to foreigners (generally speaking). But even those chinese kids are visibly surprised how smooth and natural Anming sounds. 😅

Mike, I enjoy your videos as a black man in China. My wife is Chinese she teaches me Mandarin Chinese. I’m the only African-American man in our church here in Seattle Washington. I speak fluent Chinese, and they are all amazed to hear me speaking there language.
