I bought this CD of William Boyce - Eight Symphonies in the 1980's. It seems to be unavailable these days unless you can find a used copy.

Recordings of William Boyce material also seem hard to find. I'll post more in future.

Composers of English baroque are so very much forgotten, and yet they can stand shoulder to shoulder among the greatest

The spirit of dance permeates Boyces works. A sublime and happy expression of the age in which he lived.

So glad to have finally found this. I always thought it was by Handel, but this morning I happened to hear it on my clock radio. It was tuned to the French language CBC, and I caught only the last name when the station host came on later. A little bit of experimenting, and here I am. well worth the effort.

I just purchased a vinyl copy of The eight symphonies by William Boyce on CRD.
It is unplayed and in perfect condition. I bought it in a second hand shop in Estonia and only paid 1 euro..

A much neglected master of the English Baroque style. A constant mystery why his wonderful ebulliant music is not given more airings

I would have seriously thought this was Handel.

Small but beautifully formed, as they say. Well crafted miniatures...
The influence of Handel is undeniable. But at the same time Handel would not have composed quite like this.

Pity, the third movement of symphony 8, could have been expanded into a fuller piece, with that beautiful flute theme, but he disappointingly cut it short.

We seem destined to having to re-learn everything, like Baroque symphonies, at the beginning, all over again. When they used this music as the exit march after Meghan and Harry's wedding, I smiled inside. As Talamdge1926 says, this stuff is ebulliant. At least somebody in Lonodn knows how great British baroque music is, far beypnd Bach and Handel, and Avison who is getting a little more airplay.

i suppose it would have been nice to invent a Time Machine, and go back and meet William Boyce… and give him a surprise.. and say, look.. I’ve got your eight symphonies that you wrote. Would you like to hear these versions? i would have also, love to have met George Frederick Handel, as well. Show him some recordings of the Messiah that he wrote. See what he thinks?
