Even though the anime didn't exist at that time, Pikachu was still the first Pokémon to appear in the trailer, It's not possible, when this Pokémon was created, it was destined to be the protagonist.

Here's what I found so interesting with Pokemon.
All the regions are REAL world base and I have been a Pokemon since 1998! And I am not a traveler...so please don't make fun of me when I comment on this. But here is what I found where EVERY generation's region is located
Kanto: Kanto, Japan
Johto: Kansai, Japan
Hoenn: Kyushu, Japan
Sinnoh: Hokkaido, Japan
Unova: New York, USA
Kalos: France, Europe
Alola: Hawaii, USA
Galar: United Kindgom
Paldea: Spain & Portugal, Europe
And the tenth-generation word of fans is their theory how the best of the next region would be Australia for inspiration wouldn't that be something~
