Simultaneous Contrast Explained | Classical Painting Color Theory

Simultaneous contrast is extremely important for the Apelles palette. Each color will have a different appearance depending on what other colors are around it. To get the most out of your palette you need to consider how the contrast will play into your color scheme. Mars black mixed with titanium white creates a slightly blueish gray color or “Apelles blue”. With the Apelles palette this gray color can serve as a blue due to the effects of simultaneous contrast.

Knowing and using this way of creating contrast what would be your opinion on using that colour checker mentioned in the Carder method tutorials, which came up to me now ? Seems to me like two different ways to achieve subtleness...Thank you for all your kind explanations.
