Also a few tips about safety. Don't choose Copacabana as your staying place. If you have the financial means choose places like Ipanema or Leblon (with beach) or Jardim botanico or Lagoa.

Copacabana as a lot of muggers walking around that specifically target tourists. And if they notice you're a tourist (they most likely will) you'll be seen as a target. And the main tip is really never show that you're sort of lost, unsure where you are or showing any kind of fear. They'll sense it and you'll be an easy target.

The first thing is to book a full month in Rio. There's literally hundreds of things to do in Rio. Unmatched city.

There in no way in hell that Rio has better service than Medellin. I am from Rio and have been going to Medellin for over 15 years. It is much more modern than Brazil. Hands down. All those things you said about the people from Medellin, Brazilians are a million times worse. If you think Colombians are lazy, dishonest, have no consideration for others and never on time, you are in for a treat in Brazil. The law works at lot less in Brazil than it does in Colombia, so if you get jacked, there is no chance of resolving it. In Colombia there is still a bit of a chance. U have a Colombian girl friend, that is a one up for you in Colombia, in Brazil you both are Gringos. If you have a Brazilian friend that you did not grow up with, he will jack you. He will always feel entitled to your stuff. If you did happen to grow up with him, he will still jack you.
