Ever wonder what a Buddy Pass is? A Buddy Pass is the term used within the airline industry for employee passes. In most airlines, airline employees get access to cheap fares on standby. With those perks, they can bring a friend or family member. Those tickets are called buddy passes.

Thanks for the explanation. My brother gave a buddy pass for his airline. How could you know in advance which airlines require you to travel with your sponsor or not? Thanks

Can you explain the difference between Companion Pass and Buddy Pass? I believe some airlines offer both, I’m just not sure of the difference. I believe the “Buddy Pass” is where you can fly solo or with another buddy pass recipient…not sure 😮

Buddy passes suck.  You're much better off buying a confirmed seat.  With some advance planning, you can find confirmed seats for not much more than a buddy pass.  I'd only recommend them if you're super flexible with your travel plans, a concept most non-airline employees don't understand.
