Well, Russia continues to increase its influence in Africa’s Sahel region as its military personnel have entered an air base in Niger that hosts U.S. troops, following the Nigerien military junta's decision to expel nearly 1,000 U.S. military personnel from the country.
In Europe the war in Ukraine rages on, as Russia has made advances along the frontline, and Vladimir Putin is sworn in for his 5th term as president of Russia, with a plot to assinate Volodymr Zelensky reportedly foiled by Ukraine’s SBU.
In Gaza, the Israeli military has taken "operational control" of the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt, a critical point for aid entry and the only escape route since the Israel-Hamas war began in October.
This as officials from both sides gather in Cairo to discuss a ceasefire, and after Israel and Iran recently exchanged strikes in each other’s territory.
