A lovely blend of elegance, detail work, and history - Cartier Santos Dumont

The 'king of jewelers and jewelers to kings' is a true watch house that has long standing history of making lovely watches. This limited Santos Dumont celebrated the first men's wrist watch in a playful, elegant way. Although it has sport watch history it carries many of the attributes dress watch purists value- thin, elegant, time only, handwinding, traditional details, and precious metal. I like it. What do you think?

Thank you again Stan for letting me spend a little time with this limited release!

I love the way Cartier arranged the hours in group. Look carefully the
11 12 1
7 6 5 horizontally
and
2
3
4
And
10
9
8
Vertically arranged.
So PERFECT.

I just joined the Cartier train also and I’m really happy with my piece. Glad your videos brought me to the light!

I bought a neo-vintage 1575 santos dumont as a flip, and ended up falling in love. The watch is by far my favorite watch and daily wear with jeans and a shirt

I have always been a sport watch man but Cartier have always been a jink in the armour. There just so damn elegant. The rose gold dial and bezel thejust blows me away. Arabic numerals to boot. A piece that just reeks elegance and sophistication. I had a gold tank American but this is just so much better.

My first comment is to observe what a beautifully made Video review this is....the operator understands perfectly the Camera auto focus which nails the product every time. the Macro work is superb and the Narration well judged.
I am very much a Cartier person and I know where locally I can source one of these Limited edition pieces....although my heart aches (pathetic!) it will have to wait...I have two great dress Cartier watches and it is difficult enough now to make the choice as to which I should wear for the 'evening' out and in whose company.
Currently, I have a two tone Mid size Cartier de Santos and I love the ability to quickly switch out the straps which instantly refreshes the concept and releases an additional endorphin or two when the buckle snaps shut.
Superb work and fantastic - timepiece .

Great Hat's off to you, Cartier is overlooked and the you tuber watch geeks don't pay enough attention to this amazing company. This is an absolutely beautiful watch!!!! I was weighing between a two tone and the black/gray dial, when I purchased my Santos. If I can find this at the AD, I will likely add it to my already to big of a collection. You never can have enough dress watches ⌚ 😉

I really like what Cartier is doing. They've always done great watches but in the last years they really stepped up their game. Especially with the Santos de Cartier that you own Bruce! I like this limited edition as well as it's a truly classy piece! But I also agree with the downsides - even though they have nowadays their Inhouse movements, the finishing just doesn't fit the classic appeal of the brand itself?! And yes, their boxes are pretty standard... nothing against a simple box but the Tank Solo I bought a few months ago had still the sticker on the outer box which said 'Made in Vietnam' or whatever Asian country it was. I mean yeah who cares, maybe a lot of other boxes are also made in Asia as well. But it was kinda weird and didn't fit to the watch itself.

I think that the dial is really what makes this watch special. The Arabic numerals are a departure for Cartier, but then they used an extremely stylized font and that turbine pattern at the center of the dial surrounded by the sunray lines. I feel this makes the watch "fun" and less stuffy than the traditional Roman numerals on a plain dial. The salmon color and red printing also blend nicely with the soft rose gold bezel, adding some color, warmth, and life to the watch. I believe these design departures will make this piece stand out long term and drive demand. This limited edition sold out in the USA around 7/25/21 and sellers on Chrono24 are already asking $13K and up. My only gripe (and no, it's not the box) is the dark grey strap. It looks okay, but I feel that it looks better on a black croc strap that matches the almost black hand set.

Awesome video Bruce. Not my style personally, but I can always appreciate a beautiful, thin watch.

Thank you so much, Bruce for another amazing review. Do you mind sharing your wrist size? Do you think the Dumont XL would look good on a 6.5 inch wrist? Thank you!

Proper classy intro mate, suited the watch very well indeed. It's a beautiful piece, love it....but tbh I prefer yours, just like the dial colour more, & do think Cartier's should have Roman numerals, they just look right. One of the ultimates being the first.
Classy watch, classy review as always. Cheers mate 👍👍

Wow, that's a beautiful watch. Can see what you say about the movement. When I think of beautiful movement, vintage Patek 12-400 with full bridge and fine finish comes to mind. That bump up in craftsmanship would force Cartier to raise the price, no doubt. Great review, Bruce, thank you!👍
