Computers have been making good music sequences for a while, because all you really need is to feed in something with roughly the natural chaos of a fractal, apply some structural rules to that(rhythms, scales, harmony, etc.) and you will have an interesting pattern evolving over time that you can send to a synthesizer as MIDI data. The act of composition is mostly a case of learning and applying rules for a specific genre, but anyone can write a little song if they learn some solfege(sight-singing).

What this tool is good at, or could be good at, is synthesizing a specific performance, instead of a sequence. When you add in performance, music tends to come to life because you can add in micro-details in how you use your voice, play the instrument, or arrange multiple parts together. And in those details it does have some unnatural aspects, but they're more like compression artifacts than "hand with six fingers" - if you know the instrument you'll hear the difference right away, but it's also giving you something you don't get by just reusing samples of a performance. With the 30 second limit, it's enough to make a repeating theme or a solo part, but you'd have to arrange the sample in a DAW to finish a track.

Tried this with a high energy JRock song. It definitely sounded like something I'd hear in an anime. Ahhh, but the 30-second limit leaves me wanting more... Let's see if GPT-4 can improve the prompts. Thanks for this new generator!
