Anatomy is very fundamental if your goal is to learn about forms and perspective. But in my opinion, the gestual is just as valid and I dare to say it's more practical to first learn about the fluidy and silhouette of the object, body and etc, then limit yourself with the rough forms. Just a simple tip for y'all :)

Thanks for talking about studying different artists/art from media.
There are a lot of artists and art in media that have styles that make me go: "I want to draw like that" yet I haven't tried to sit down and figure out how exactly they do it yet.

I really recommend the book Color and Light by James Gurney for both beginner and intermediate artists!! It touches on a lot of different techniques (and some other fundamentals) and choices that i never would’ve thought of myself, and i could see improvement in my colours and composition choices pretty quickly.

(It is marketed as for realist painters but even so, all art styles are of course inspired by real life, so it still could help you in other ways even if you don’t paint realism, like me.)
