The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing to examine the potential consequences of President-elect Donald Trump’s plan for getting the military involved in helping to carry out his massive deportation plan.

The hearing also covered the impact on families involved, the economy, and the federal government’s role.

Among the witnesses were Assistant Philadelphia District Attorney Foday Turay, who spoke about his life as a DACA recipient and the impact mass deportations might have on his family, and Patty Morin, whose daughter Rachel was killed in 2013, allegedly by an illegal immigrant.

Also testifying was Army Maj. Gen. Randy Manner (Ret.), who spoke on the impact mass deportation would have on the military, saying, “I strongly encourage any future presidential administration to keep immigration enforcement and our military separate.”

Ms. Hirono sounds sensible, the voice of reason. I believe Mr. Padilla and Mr. Welch are also being reasonable. He kept everyone on track. They seem to want a reasonable solution, making sense from both sides. Some of the others concentrate on finger-pointing. That doesn't solve the problem. Interesting that Mr. Cruz is so passionate about sexual assault but doesn't acknowledge that Trump and many people he wants to bring with him have also been accused of sexual assault. We need people at the helm with much better morals and ethics than Trump and his cronies.

“87% of people voted for Donald Trump?” What? That is totally false. It was more like 48% of the people who voted. A lot of people didn’t even vote, so the percentage is a lot lower if you’re counting all voting aged people.
