If we are to return to the Moon to stay, a comprehensive communications and navigation system will be required. The UK, Italy and ESA have taken the lead on this through Project Moonlight. We get all of the details in this EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with the UKSA.

A great interview! Very interesting and as usual, well done Jordan.

Its a very good idea, not only does it make sense for continuing larger scale lunar operations. It may also eventually have potentially massive implications for other sorts of outwards detections too. A secondary side effect may be that other gravitational anomalies would become that much more detectable by subtle variation between the swarms, as they'll need to talk to each other regularly. By sheer size of the encompassed data alone, data from two gravitational sources that already interact with each other in so many ways. That casts a wide net in my mind.

Love the interview only issue I've noticed with these is the mic levels between you and your guest speaker are sometimes way off. Your voice really carries and some of these guys are soft spoken itd be nice if they were a little louder. Thanks for the content!

A communications and positioning swarm for both Lunar and Martian exploration seems a basic need going forward.

Anything on: NASA unveils new spacesuit design, updating decades-old tech for upcoming moon missions
The space agency and private contractor Axiom hope the new, more mobile suit will be ready for a planned return to the moon in 2025.

Long term, I am concerned about Blue Origin delivering their BE-4s.
Space X is producing about one Raptor 2 a day. Assume Vulcan is a success with the first two BE-4s. Blue Origin has not yet produced the third and forth BE-4 needed for Vulcan to launch Dream Chaser by August of this year. What are the alternatives if Blue Origin continues to be late? ULA, Dream Chaser, and New Glenn are all dependent on lots of BE-4 engines.

I am confused by the term Dark Side of the Moon. There is a Near Side and a Far Side.
The idea to allow members of the public to control a rover on the Moon was put forth in the 1970s.

Falcon Heavy might be a the best economic sense for launching to Lunar orbit.

Thank god, Europe is doing Telecom on the moon. Imagine if we had to deal with AT&T up there too.

You'd think a Global Navigation and Communication for any body you plan to inhabit forever would be paramount. It turns out almost no orbits around the Moon are stable, even if they're inside the Hill radius. This is primarily to do with mass concentrations (or mascons) in the Moon's crust and mantle which make the gravitational field non-uniform and act to degrade orbits. Why not do Towers instead? They'd be more stable and serviceable, something Robots and onsite Humans can construct. This would provide a reason for 24/7 settlements.

I would imagine a few Starlink V2 satellites around the moon for communications would suffice initially, and maybe 32 GPS satellites for navigation?

since they mostly land on earth facing moon, wouldnt it be cheaper to make a positioning system of an ai box looking at earth to determine where it is and using its distance gauging of surface which it must have to land anyway, also along with a lunar map you dont need gps satellites for moon? its what military uav drones use today to navigate. it would be cheaper..

For a company that's all about communications...this interview sounded as if it came over two soup cans and a string.
