I think it's time we covered one of the most controversial and unique lines in all of World of Warships: the British light cruiser branch. Let's keep things rolling with Tier IX's HMS Neptune.

00:00 - Intro
00:08 - Meet Neptune
02:17 - Survivability
04:05 - Armor
07:23- Maneuverability & Concealment
11:16 - Main Battery
14:41 - Torpedoes
16:32 - Depth Charges
17:34 - AA Defenses
20:41 - Consumables
21:57 - Upgrades
28:19 - Signals
28:50 - Commander Skills
31:23 - Sample Gameplay

Neptune is arguably the low point in the British light cruiser branch; she's exceedingly fragile and begins facing a lot of opponents who are primed and ready to take advantage of that fact. Captains will have to use hard cover (islands), soft cover (smoke), and a lot of cunning to keep this ship in a game. Once they learn how, though, they're rewarded with an insane amount of firepower packed into a tiny hull. In this video I'll talk about how I build my Neptune, why I fit her out that way, how I recommend playing her, and follow all of that up with a game demonstrating the ship in action.

Enjoy!

G'day SeaRaptor, I think your "Learn to Play" vids are the best this community has and is an essential tool for new players. I believe you do this primarily for them and I find it a bit puzzling why you played the Edinburgh and Neptune as Radar when this build is best for players with more understanding of the game. I think it would be more helpful if you provided an example that would better suit there skill level i.e smoke build, you said so in this vid. I would like to suggest maybe in the Minotaur vid that will come next in this line to do a smoke build and show the different play style needed compared with radar.
Thanks for what you do and keep up the great work. 👍

So I finished the grind from neptune to Mino last week and have been looking forward to this. These are my stats. I am only a very average player, and do not pay for Premium, although did get some free premium days along the way. I did not free xp any of it either. 70 battles in total, 44% win rate, survived 21 battles, 1257 avg xp, 44723 avg damage, 131294 max damage, 3107 max xp. It felt like as soon as you are spotted the priority target number goes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Everybody shoots at you because you just explode so easy. I had games where I was dev struck before even shooting my guns, was dev struck in smoke multiple times, and couldn't do anything on some maps with little or no cover. Then you get the crazy games where you get over 100k and don't get sunk. The shells come down covered in ice coz they have been in the air so long! This ship can drive you nuts. Love these videos Raptor, so good. Reminds me of Whiskeys gaming lounge back in the day. o7

So many videos . . . . so . . many . . videos ;)

Neptune is comin' up for me, good to see this.

Hmmm I wonder how many folks will quote the 'false' view of, 'AA doesn't work, everyone says so, ' he he. On cruisers with great inherent AA, I have followed your points and I can really ruin the day of a carrier. Just had 54 aircraft kills this morning in one game; no hits on me, I watched for incoming and steered to my advantage and let the AA do it's work.

I'll be completely honest, I'm not brave enough yet to get this ship. Still working on the radar Edinburgh that you recommended. I adore the Santander so I hope that bodes well. "Because...he's a Scharnhorst and that's what you do when you're in a Scharnhorst". Laughed my butt off over that comment. That Fletch did what smoke dds SHOULD do. Good game.

Outstanding vid of what Neptune can do. I hated grinding the Neptune for the cit alone. In typhoon, I ran head long into a Petro, who put all his guns through my forward shell trap. Very frustrating, but I don't know why, I did exceptionally well in Fiji, poorly in Edin, but at least back up to average in Neptune.

Thanks Rap. It is a challenge to play but very satisfying when you manage to have a battle impact. PS I hope you complimented that Fletcher 🙂

Radar Neptune or as I like to call it, "Hate-une" just because it will draw so much agro...

The guns are not the same as the earlier cruisers as they have a much slower shell speed (her shells are considerably slower than Edinburgh almost 100m/s) making them increadibly floaty and almost impossible to use at anything above 13k unless the opponent is brain dead and doesn't attempt to dodge. Neptune has the worst guns in the game. They might be effective in a low skill server like NA but on the EU server with the different game meta they are the worst.
