CDMA was "the first eSIM"! In the days of CDMA, the network itself would program something called a "NAM (Number Assignment Module)" into the device when it registered to a CDMA network. The network would know which phone was yours by getting the ESN/MEID (IMEI, but for CDMA) and send YOUR plan (Number, cellular service settings, etc) over the network to your phone without the need of a physical SIM card. That system was phased out after the emergence of 4G LTE, but seems to be making some kind of return in the newer eSIMs.

i have a iphone 4 too but it always has to be on charge because of the poor battery life i cant find a repair shop who replaces a iphone 4 battery
