I WROTE MY FINAL YEAR DISSERTATION IN A WEEK... and it was stressful

so... i am a CLOWN and ended up writing my final year thesis / dissertation in the week before the deadline. this was genuinely the worst thing i've ever done and i hate myself for it. so enjoy :)

I love that it seems no student ever rereads their works after submitting. I have written like 9 term papers, send them my profs, put them in the file with all my other papers and never opened it again. It is the pandoras box of my suffering and bad writing.

This is exactly the way I work too: plan, plan, overplan, re-plan, then procrastinate (but sort of still working it out and figuring things out in my mind), procrastinate, panic, start because there's no more time, doing a good chunk and feeling somewhat confident, hating it, starting again and realizing this is going to be harder than anticipated, work, work, be weirdly focused and extremely dedicated, more work...almost procrastinate again to finish it up...AND DONE!

i wrote 70% of my year-long graduate degree thesis in two weeks. we eat stress for breakfast.

I finished my dissertation yesterday, after writing it in less than 10 days, I can relate so much to this mindset hahaha
The weirdest part was towards the end; the thesis was due at 12pm, and I had progressed so well that I was so chilled out the night before and got over-confident. Then, half-way through the night when I realised that putting the words into the TEMPLATE takes freakin ages - I lost all sense of chill. Fast forward to 11.50am the next day after an all-nighter and I still needed to fix one paragraph, but just submitted it regardless. BUT HOLD ON because I then realised that, because I'm in my home country (due to COVID), I had an EXTRA HOUR from the time difference. not gonna lie, that time difference literally saved my ass :D sorry this was a long story but basically thank the lord for time difference

Jack. I don‘t know you, and I probably won‘t ever get the chance to thank you. But I just want to say: you have single-handedly saved my life. I had 9 months to write my dissertation. I started off great with writing interviews, conducting them, transcribing them, going through the data and analysing it, plotting graphs etc. But I just could not bring myself to start writing. So I put it off. For 8 months and 2.5 weeks. And then it hit me: I have 1.5 weeks left, 0 literature read, and 0 words written. And I cried. I thought about hiring a ghostwriter (I could never), re-taking my thesis year, or just straight up sinking into the earth and dying. But then I openend Youtube instead and typed „writing your thesis in one week“, and I found the absolute masterpiece that is this video. I saved it to my phone and every time I wanted to cry or give up I watched it and it gave me hope that I could finish this. And I did. I just got my grade and I can‘t believe it, I actually got a good grade, placing in the top 20% of students. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. No other person in my life was able to help me as much as you did with this video. Truly a gem. Thank you, thank you, thank you from Switzerland.

And if you‘re reading this and have a thesis to finish: you can do it. But it‘s really, really hard. And you must absolutely push through and remember that a mediocre thesis is better than an unfinished one. Don‘t waste time trying to get it perfect! You‘ve got this!!! In 1.5 weeks I read 25 papers and wrote my whole thesis, start to finish, 15‘000 words. I did not sleep the last 40hours before the submission because I had to format everything, go through the sources, write the abstract in both English and German, get everything printed etc. But I submitted it, 2hours before deadline, and I have now successfully graduated!!
