Hi. I did a large sculpture (around 8ft) that was all bent wood. I did a lot of research and experimenting on which woods bend better and found that you need a hardwood, but a softer hardwood. Poplar was the sweet spot for me. The softwoods were just not strong enough but wood like oak was impossible. Great steam box!

I never would have thought about that, wow! Pretty cool at the end when you mentioned the letters n or u. You actually wound up spelling UP. I hope the flash earlier of video was a filter added thing.
Just a thought! Wonder if one could do the same with wooden dowels & a conduit bender after steaming?

God Bless & a Very Merry (Healthy) Christmas to all.

Hey Clinton,
crepe myrtle bends very easily without steam. Last year
I had 1 1/2" -2" branches that had been cut about a week earlier. I put 1 into burn barrel and just started bending it and noticed that it wouldn't break, I formed it in a boomerang shape let it cool and kept its shape.
I did it again WITH LAST YEAR'S (cured) BRANCHES. Same results. I'm thinking of using it to trim in my house.
I hope you will try it and let me know how it does.
Thanks for all the tips.

It's best to make your steam box out of steel or PVC pipe. Making it out of wood will slow the steaming since the wood will also soak it in and wont last long from the warping.

Well.... I'm still trying to get my mind wrapped around this video 😁 probably helps if I take a steam bath first...
Hey I just had an Idea... bend some French cleats so you can hang circular items like canisters? dust collection? . . . hmmm... what could you do with that?
