Here’s a ‘koi story’ in celebration of @petco Koi Month, where you can get 20% off all koi and select pond supplies in-store and online through June: three years ago, I built an epic pond for my koi fish, but I wanted them to experience life beyond the water. So with help from Petco, we built a skyscraper using six cinder blocks and a 35-gallon tank.

As someone making a video about animals it is wild that you'd recommend Petco.
Also be very careful with that skyscraper, they are notorious for killing fish eventually, as they have no circulation and anything bad stays at the top. You'd need to empty and re-vacuum that every couple of days for it to not be suuuper unhealthy

I remember you suggested this idea to the pond guy and he didn’t seem very thrilled at the idea. Seems like you did it anyway. Someone said working with petco is an L, I have to agree.

Love your pond Kevin, you may want to reconsider recommending fish from Petco though. I impulse bought some from them and they wiped out half of my beautiful planted aquarium with a disease called epistylis that took me what felt like months to remedy. That was partly my fault for not quarantining long enough but still less likely if I had bought from a better source. A new dead fish almost every day was so unbelievably depressing. I had to take a long break to let my tank and heart recover and now I only breed my own or buy from Aquatic Warehouse (still quarantine for four weeks) to keep my remaining fish safe.

Personally I rather shop at a local fish store because of diversify they would have over a big box store but do what you can. It can definitely be cheaper getting koi there than a local fish store

I miss my koi pond. My family dug it out ourselves and put in the water feature. We had beautiful butterfly koi. I hope the new owners are caring for that and my beautiful garden I left them when we sold the house.

Seems to me that this thing would eventually get covered in algae. Then you'd just have a green box on the water, haha! Pretty darn cool before that though.

I love how its narrated as this super cool thing the koi are gonna love. And in reality its just a glass tank stacked ontop of cinder blocks in the middle of a nice pond. Your fish dont give a shit about some "beautiful plants around the pond"

Isn't this going to trap frogs and kill them? That's what I've heard, but I'm not sure if there's much validity to the claim. I'm guessing it would be something like them coming up for air when they really need it, going into the box instead, and drowning that way?
