"The Siren and the Springs" takes a deeper look at the Florida manatee, one of our most universally-loved marine mammals, which relies on both marine and freshwater habitats for survival in Florida.

Florida's incredible artesian springs create rich habitats for manatees, as well as a diverse community of other aquatic live. Spring water in Florida, which is a consistent 72 degrees Fahrenheit regardless of the season, also provides manatees with live-saving warm water during the winter months.

Follow us as we explore Florida's incredible springs, learn more about Florida's threatened manatee population, and discover the environmental threats each face. Manatees, like many other animals, are touch stones, bellwethers, alarm bells. They are the sirens of the springs.

Grew up going to Hommassa Springs my whole life, would often camp out at Rainbow River Springs and I have some crazy stories, rattlesnake pits etc. Also the old Tarzan Tv show was filmed there and the guy that built all the little underwater one man subs from the old 007 movies lives on the river and would use it as his practice area. So much history from Rainbow River I could go for hours!
