I don't get why so many commenters are calling Mario a bad guy here. As far as I can tell he only killed two monsters here; one of them was the closest thing the story has to a villain, and the other he killed on accident (hence him insisting to Sans that Papyrus will "put himself back together"). He even tries to prevent the other monsters from going outside because he knows the Angry Sun will just kill them all.
