In hindsight, Tom Cruise as Reacher was a horrendous idea

I think Tom Cruise is badass, I haven't read the book, but I think he is really good in action films...

Cruise is a great Actor. Never read the books but this looks like it will be good. All the good action actors are old . Not many young actors are ready to fill the action role shoes

maybe, but it could be that with so much more potential for future films and a BIG paycheck from them, would you say otherwise?
Reacher is like 6'6 in the books, its not what we've read...
that said, any film has a degree of artistic license and tom has the background for the role :)

Fair enough. My point was that it looks like Christopher McQuarrie did not even read the book. And from reviewing some of the upcoming films by McQuarrie it appears that he has just thrown in an actor that he has alot of interest in rather than matching some of the basics. I will watch the movie when released though and my opinion might

Well, this is based on the character of "Jack" the "Repairman". Personally, I think Tom Cruise is perfect for the role. Jack gets his guns from a pawn shop. He dresses very ordinarily in plaid or mock neck. He can blend in with anyone in the crowd. But he can fight like a machine and is very well trained. The only part I see is that in the "Repairman" novels, Jack was never a cop. Just a self-trained fighting man that goes after the scum of the earth. I think it's worth a shot watching.

If you've read the books its too late for a movie starring TC. In fact it makes you feel sorry for the films. Lee Child see's $ and I'm sure he'd have loved a taller famous name but there we go. Lets see the movies might hold up on their own. Cruise can act, personally I think the character is another 'Stacee Jaxx' (see Rock of ages) for Cruise.

@ Zain844: I agree. I can picture Dwayne Johnson as Reacher. Adding TC to the role is just trying to sell the movie. There are way better actors that could have been case as Reacher that could have been paid half of TC's salary. I have been long waiting for the Jack Reacher books to be adapted to the big screen. It's obvious that no one in Hollywood even read the earlier books in the Reacher series

They've made no effort to make Cruise even look vaguely Reacher like. He's got a 100 dollar hair cut, great skin and laundered clothes. Aside from shaving every couple of days Reacher is basically a genius, muscle-bound hobo who rights wrongs. Cruise looks like an angry male model -- did the bad guys make his cocktail wrong? Is that why he's so angry?

Yeah that's absolutely true, in my opinion Ross Kemp would be perfect choice!

Lots of people seem to be bringing up the fact that Tom Cruise is short. Indeed he is. But look at it this way, guys, the hobbits in the lord of the rings were not hobbit-sized. Even Gimli was not dwarfed sized (actor is actually 6 foot +) I believe there is this thing called special effects. I doubt they'll make Cruise look 5'6 like he actually is, so...chill.
