Serenade (Ständchen), by Schubert. Written two years before his death, this work is a perfect example of the melancholic writing Schubert was so well known for. Being one of his many lieder (in English, "songs", though today we associate the word 'lied' more with art songs), this piece was originally written for voice and piano (lyrics below), but who better than Liszt to create a beautiful piano arrangement. With this video we also introduce another pianist to the channel - SPQ! Hope you enjoy the piece and have an excellent Monday ♥

Silently my songs beg
Through the night to you;
Down into the quiet grove,
Darling, come to me!

Whispering, slim treetops rustle
In the moonlight;
The hostile eavesdropper's ear
maid, fear not

Do you hear the Nightingales singing?
Oh! they implore you,
With the sounds of sweet laments
They Plead for me.

They understand the bosom's longing,
Know love's pain,
Stirring with their silvery tones
Every soft heart.

Let them also stir your breast,
Darling, listen to me!
Trembling I awaited
you.
Come, make me happy!

Finally found a way to get around the incorrect copyright claims!!! Rendered a version that wasn't claimed by Hyperion (blocked worldwide) but by Rebeat Digital instead (and viewable to all). Though the video is still claimed even though the piece is completely in the public domain - so time to dispute once more, but at least you can all finally watch the video. Welcome to the internet in 2019, where you don't even have the rights to your own original content!

this piece always reminds me of how insane music actually is. these people lived somewhat a long time ago and their music is still being played and listened to. music is something so powerful is this world and does so many good things.

I'm here from Signalis, and hearing this song in the end of the game, with how prominent it is throughout the game, completely broke me. Signalis is a genuine masterpiece. Remember our promise.

Which composer not yet on the channel should be next? Do you want to see more Schubert?

This was the last song my grandad played for me before he died, he asked me and my son to listen to it. We stood in silence, with subtle glances to each other.
I didn’t know that it would be the last time I would ever see him, this song has so much meaning to me now, so Thankyou 💔

Rousseau got their first video deleted and managed to put a new one out in a few hours. Truly one of the best youtubers in my opinion

Today, July 29th, is my dear dad's birthday, many years dead.
Every year I remember him with some personal thoughts and chats.
This year I am playing this beautiful piece, throughout the day. magnificently played
by Rousseau.
I am having a good cry, but they are tears of joy and happiness.
Thank you Rousseau .

I sit in awe that this particular piece was composed *195* years ago!! And it speaks to my soul in a volume so deafening. More than anything created today. I cannot find the words to put it in context. It just resonates so powerfully in a world now that needs it most. Never forget that music will never forsake us and get us through the most difficult of times.

So someone brought Schubert and Liszt back to life for the copyright claim to be removed

Schubert was a real master of melody, They never sound contrived or formula based.
