In this webinar, Dr. Cindy Harley of Metropolitan State University explains how she has moved beyond the typical type of assessment with her students and has turned to alternative means of assessment that also help develop better note-taking skills, make students connect different topics, and offer flexible timing. Her students prefer them to normal exams and exhibit longer term retention than with other means of assessment!

Hi Dr. Harley! How are you? My name is Dr. Clarence Baskin! I'm a high school educator/teacher in the state of Maryland. I am in total agreement with you! Administering an exam during the 2019 COVID-19 Pandemic would be too stressful! The students were already out of it!!! You and I use the same type of having students retain the lecture given. I use my Digital Biology/ Anatomy- Physiology and Biogeochemical Journals. I use this as an Assessment. This Digital Journal can be creative by the teacher and the student. This gives students the opportunity to retain knowledge, and perform better on a given assessment. From time time to time, I allow my students to use their notes. I'm enjoying this
webinar!!!

Something that I do with my students is I provide snacks to allow them to eat. This allows them to understand digestive process (i.e. enzymes function, what goes on with their organs). Since I'm teaching Anatomy & Physiology this year, I shall have Organ Stations to cover the various systems. I shall have them do a Reflection in their Digital Journal. Also, I want to use your Rubric to administer an Assessment. Thank you for sharing!!!
