I read some comments couple years ago, when someone asked US troops which country they wish to go into combat with and one US trooper said the UK Royal marines, because he served along side them in Afghanistan, and the royal marines fight like the "Gates of hell has just opened up! for me as a Brit civilian I was very proud to read that from another countries soldier. and shows how respected UK royal marines are around the world. he wasn't the only one, many more said British troops.

I'm an old ex army wife. My husband used to go away on quite a few exercises every year, some lasting 6 weeks and this is the first time I've ever seen what they do. My husband used to really enjoy them.

Hi Joel, Total and utter respect to the Royal Marines and all our other military. We have the best and I'm hugely grateful and proud of all of them, conflict should not happen but sadly it's the world we live in. Thank you does not cover how grateful I am to everyone, again another great video Joel thank you x

Great video Joel. My son is serving in the British Army as a Royal Engineer, so this video was very personal to me and I thank you for showing it to us. Keep doing what you're doing Joel. Lyd x

Good morning Joel. Woke up, staggered downstairs and found myself with the Royal Marines at War. Good wake up call! Definitely need a cup of tea to mull over just how great our Royal Marines are. We thank God for them, and all our armed services. Thanks for this one,

This was a good "taster" look at what the Bootnecks do...! They have a reputation for being, let's say "light hearted " with their banter, but once things kick off it's a whole different story!!! The RM are in the top 5 toughest troops on the planet and are trained fight in terrain ranging from the Arctic to the Sahara desert. Oh, please don't go on a drinking session with them... it always gets messy and results in large gaps in your memory and wallet.... I never learn!!!

Thanks for that, Joel - I for one had no real idea what kinds of things they did at all, although I knew that their training is probably the most gruelling of all. I have an acquaintance who used to be the in the Royal Marines Band - he's now a Salvation Army Officer, in fact - I believe their role on the battlefield is to be stretcher-bearers, which has got to be one of the most dangerous of all - dodging bullets to pick up casualties. Also, the son of a friend I used to have in England tragically died three months into his basic training at Lympstone Commando (which is in Devon, Southwest England). Apparently the exercise required them to dive - in full kit - and swim some distance underwater, alas he dropped his gun and was made to go back for it... Unfortunately - and it had nothing to do with the training as it eventually turned out; he suffered sudden heart failure during the return dive, and never came up again.

Good afternoon Joel.
I have noticed that no one has translated the Royal Navy/Marine jargon yet.
The language aboard a Royal Navy vessel is called JACK SPEAK. All Royal Marines and sailors (the narrator served on CHF so was a sailor) are taught this from the day they join the military.
It overcame the problem of people with different accents across the UK, joining the forces and not understanding each other. Geordie is very different Glaswegian.
In this video, he uses some you may not be sure on.
SHUT-EYE - sleep
OLD OPPOS - old friends
SPUN SOME DITS - tell stories
HAD SOME SCRAN - had something to eat

I hope this helps

Following Putin's illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, war games like this are unfortunately necessary. Estonia is on the front line with Russia and it's vital for the whole of Europe and the United States and Canada that NATO remains strong and ready. I'm against war too, but with likes of Adolf Putin in this world we need to be strong and vigilant.

The British have always had a strong tendency to understatement, going back centuries. Lord Uxbridge had his leg shattered by a cannonball at Waterloo and exclaimed to Wellington "By God, sir, I've lost my leg!" to which the reply was "By God, so you have!". You know it's been a bloody battle when it's been described as a trifle tricky or similar. We're more likely to joke rather than be gung ho. EG, I believe that some of the US army called Tora Bora 'The Caves of Death' whereas our lot referred to them as Tora Bora Tompkinson after a society girl called Tara Palmer-Tompkinson, a rough equivalent to Paris Hilton.

With all the money in the world and what each country provides for these horrible weapons there would be no hunger or strive anywhere. But we live in a world where most countries are suspicious of each other and who has the most destructive weapons man can come up with. We are a world that’s going to destroy itself somewhere down the line when we could actually live in harmony and no hunger . But I suppose I live in a twilight world!! 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Great video, thank you! The UK, German, Swedish, Norwegian, Estonian, Latvia, Lithuania, French, Danish and the US Marines and other special forces have been training with the Finnish Military constantly over a year now. And all of them have only one common enemy in you everybody for supporting Finland and Sweden joining NATO!!

Next stop, SAS, Special Air Service. (Special Boat Service is also an elite force). SAS was in the shadows until the Libyan Embassy hostage relief attack.

The military do joke in intense situations as do most civilians. It sort of brushes away the anxiety of war/situation. It also helps you to focus when the situation changes and becomes local and intense. Was in the RN myself during the 80's [Falklands].
It's all good to say 'there should be no war' [which there shouldn't] but man cannot be trusted for that too happen, and where there are enemy regiemes in the world [china/nk/iran/russia etc.] one has to have a defence against them.
