Rome's Best Location to Stay Finally Determined After Several Attempts.

After staying in Rome in more than 20 locations, This is by far the best area to stay when visiting Rome. Rome is a large city with a very large historical center. Typically just staying in the historcal center works best for most Italian cities but this is not true for Rome. It is best to stay in area that most things are accessible by walking. I have found the are of Torre Argentina is the best place to base your stay. Busses come by the square every few minutes and so many things are a short walk away. The Pantheon is just 300 meters away, Campo Dei Fiori is 350 meters away, The Jewish Ghetto is just 200 meters away, Piazza Navona is less than 500 meters away, Trevi Fountain is under 650 meters away and best of all Trastevere is just a short walk away. Trastevere has great food, nightlife and should not be missed on your visit to Rome.

Trastevere is a great place to stay. I’m 75 and had no problems walking to many historic sites from Trastevere. A taxi can whisk you to site further away. As a home base, we found wonderful restaurants and walked the neighborhood feeling safe and happy. We stayed at the Santa Maria Hotel. It was secure, quiet, and beautiful. I love Rome and hope to return to Trastevere.

That was really great! I loved the views on the map and then going to the locations to see what it looks like in reality! I don't know the Jewish Quarter and more to the southeast of Piazza Navona, but you've given me a lot of new ideas for my next trip! The University of WA has had a location at Campo deli Fiori since before 1986 when I studied there. I have been back several times and love that city because there is something new around every corner! Thanks for the memories and future ones I want to make with your suggestions!
