This is one of the very best songs of the 1970s

There will never be music like the 70's and 80's! :)

This is the beauty of these types of songs back in the day. I had no idea that this was a song about a woman who was "the other woman." when I was listening to this when I was a child back in the 70's. Now-a-days, the lyrics are so graphic and in your face that it takes all the fun out of listening to them. And Phoebe's voice was so mellow that that was all you were listening to. Continue to rest in heavenly peace Phoebe Snow.

I dig the sax solo and looked up the credits. It was Zoot Sims, also involved were David Bromberg, Ron Carter, Teddy Wilson, Bob James, Dave Mason, etc. This is an All World studio band and then there is Phil Ramone mixing! A real confluence of talent

Thank you. I haven't heard this in decades. But I woke up singing it in my head this morning. Beautiful song.

On this day in 1976 {July 30th} Phoebe Snow performed "Poetry Man" on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special'...
One year earlier on June 20th, 1975 she first appeared on 'The Midnight Special' and at that time also performed "Poetry Man"...
The song peaked at #5 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart and #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Singles chart...
Sadly, Ms. Snow passed away on April 26th, 2011 at the young age of 60...
May she R.I.P.

I'm an 80's baby and grew up loving her music and still. I was blessed to see her perform. I miss her. But enjoy her music still. Remembered forever

Very pretty song.   I remember well when it was released, the brief but idyllic time it was on the charts and got some radio play.    Today it is all but forgotten.   Both the song and singer Phoebe Snow never got the credit for the genius each was.    Each highly underrated.

This hit by Phoebe Snow was the 248th #1 song on what is now Billboard's Adult Contemporary charts. It also hit #5 on the Top 40 charts and #4 in Canada. I have this on an LP from Ronco, Sound Explosion.

Thanks for this video. I am learning to sing this song. I found that several versions of the lyric are a bit different. Here it’s written in the chorus, “You’re the poetry man. You make things all right.” It kinda sounds like it too. But several other sources say the lyric is, “You’re the poetry man. You make things all rhyme.” It seems like she sings this in the live version, as well. And it also seems like saying “rhyme” instead of “right” goes with the theme of poetry as well.
