back in 2004 i lived in Ontario and i used to run laps around the yard and this big Cardinal would run laps from one side of the yard to the other. i began to listen to his calls so one day i started to call back. i copied him/her and learned that they can count to 10. i repeated the 2 high pitch sounds followed by another low pitch sound all the way up to 10 and the bird went back down to 1 after the 10th sequence. Then repeated it, the several times I tried. amazing creatures these birds

His songs are as beautiful as his plumage. What a blessing it is not only to hear his song, but, to see him joyfully singing away. Thanks for sharing this incredible footage! ❤️❤️❤️

The ones I hear near Minneapolis, MN have two calls. One sounds like #4 only with a note ahead, so it sounds like "What cheer, what cheer". But I've also heard ones and luckily seen them that sound like "see cue, see cue (or C Q, C Q).

Ever since I was a little girl in the 90s, the “switch back” has always been my favorite bird call. It was only recently that I finally learned it came from cardinals. ❤

I hear one similar to #3, but it goes on longer, then stops abruptly.Hard to explain. It sounds like it starts in mid call, then goes on a few seconds, then stops in, what seems like, the middle of it's call.

In southern New Jersey/southeastern Pennsylvania they don’t sing like this at all. It’s completely different.

That's likely the bird that's always calling me weirdo. The abuse I take...
