In this video I am checking out the Black Mountain Volume Pedal.

Volume pedals are useful bits of gear, but we as guitar players don't often crave owning one. Most of the volume pedals on the market have a single feature, controlling the volume. This new take on the volume pedal from Black Mountain is a really cool way to transform what you think of when you think of volume pedals.

The Black Mountain Volume Pedal is designed differently to every other volume pedal. Rather than being a footplate style pedal that gets rocked back and forth, this one is a roller wheel with a potentiometer that you roll like the volume control of a guitar, except on the floor.

As well as being a really easy to use volume pedal, it also has a couple of other functions. You can use it for some tremolo style playing, as a way to swell notes, to roll back your guitar volume to clean up your tone and it also doubles as an expression pedal with the help of a TRS to Y splitter cable.

In the video I am playing my B&G Guitars Little Sister which is plugged into the Blackstar TV10A. The amp is on the overdrive channel with the Origin Effects Halcyon Blue in front of it. The amp is running via the Two Notes Torpedo Captor X.

This is interesting. There was a company years ago called Classic Audio Effects that did a roller volume pedal. I had one and it was cool, took a bit to get used to. It didn't have the other functions that this does though!

one fatal flaw is that it is simply not ergonomic at all, that alone will drive people away from it. traditional volume pedal and/or wah wah pedal takes advantage of the natural pivot of your ankle and it also lets you to put your weight on to it. this one forces you to stand on one leg, and if you put too much of your weight on to it, it might roll forward. if im not mistaken mooer made a small wah2 pedal that still functions like a normal wah pedal in a very small footprint, maybe that's where they should've started.

I feel like country guitar is so over looked. Bc this pedal basically takes away everything that makes the volume pedal a staple for country music players. (Mostly tele guys who are tryna mimics a pedal steel).

Rolling forward takes up a lot of space. Could get very slippery after wandering through a beer spill. ALL your weight is on one foot, that’s tiring after a pretty short time. Good luck to them but for me this one’s a pass.

I just don't see this ever making onto players boards. There's no control for setting minimums and maximums. You can't see the thing with your foot on top of it. I'm sure Jack White got it for free. And if he's still using it, it won't be for long. I can see this maybe for a parallel effects loop.
