No teleprompter needed for him. Both of her parents were highly educated and intellectual people from affluent families. Don't buy the poor middle-class girl next door upbringing pitch. She had every advantage, but learned early on that she could get farther in life utilizing her charm/looks, raw ambition, social climbing and leverage in the system.
It was not necessary for her to work and study as hard as her parents did. Sadly, there is a pattern in many families where the desire to work hard skips a generation with entitled children who benefit from the hard work of the previous generation. Kamala is a classic example and has mastered the art of failing forward with the help of amazing connections and a lot of fortuitous luck.
