114270 is my favorite Rolex too. Perfect mix of vintage feel and modern build. Beautiful, elegant, comfortable, and robust for all occasions. It would most likely be in the mix of my final 2 watches if I had to burn down my collection.

I just bought this watch a month ago. I love it so much. I have a 1989 Explorer II that I’m likely going to sell. I’m not GMT watch fan in general.

I like the Explorer, however, I prefer a Black Explorer II for its larger/more robust size and GMT function. The Sub is great, just grew tired of seeing it.
Both the Explorer and Explorer II are fairly rare, which I prefer. Both can be dressed up or dressed down....another factor in my decision.

I tried so much to love the Explorer more than I actually did. Had a 114270 for a couple years, sold it, regretted it, bought another one, had it for a few years and bought a 214270 Mk2 at the same time, then sold them both! Didn't regret it that time. My 2009 Railmaster 39mm outlasted all of them, but then I sold that too lol. And then came the one that really did it for me, a 2009 Explorer II black dial. Three months on my wrist running non stop come next Friday 🙂 Fourteen years deep in the hobby and a few hundred grand's worth of pieces later, the 16570 I really feel could be my one and done watch. Just have to bring myself to let go of the other 15 or so other pieces I still have 😕
