Pete is the goat. Watch the exhibition in 08 with Federer. The man still had it and if he was still playing at that level he would have won more. He definitely would have went to a bigger racquet too.

His first serve, second serve, volley and most definitely his overhead were the best. If he was in the era of the big three, he could well have been amongst them. Federer based his game on his. Easy to see. Power is nothing without control he said. ❤

Pete dominated the most talented era tennis has ever seen. Prime Pete would dominate this current era as well.

This was a different era, Sampras, Edberg, Becker, treat to watch.

At that time when you master serve & volley you can be n°1, Sampras, Edberg, Becker, McEnroe even Rafter for a short time. Nowadays you don't see anyone in the top 20 using that technique.

For me, Sampras is like Zidane in Football. They are not the GOATs, but they are unique and the most elegant players: there will never be another Sampras.

C'était qd m bon le jeu de Sampras. Ben magnifique les services volées, faut reconnaître qu'il avait du style. Federer aussi. ça manque ça sur le circuit. Ben les mecs ils montent plus à la volée.

One thing that's really hard for me to understand.
What's there between this guy's ears.
It's not as much of a question as it is a statement.
Maybe it's over 95% of the population, probably less than 99%.
Between feeling the fear of losing, and seeing the opportunity to win everything.
There's a case study about Pete Sampras mind set.
Has it been done? I didn't read his autobiography.
I never felt the need to.
Watching him play. Just that. I wanted to see all of the unforced errors almost as much as I wanted to see all of the winners.
Just to see him adjust his sight.
Until it's time to unleash the big shots when you need them the most.

When Pete was at his best, I'm not sure he was not better than even the big 3. His serve was as dominant if not more so than any of them. In terms of peak ability, I'd take Pete at his best over even Roger, Novak, or Rafa, but that's just me. He was definitely in their category, no matter how many more grand slams they won.

Smooth mover, always balanced, less frenzied than Edberg or Rafter.

I was an agassi fan, but grew to respect the heck out of Sampras.
I have always felt bad that he held the GOAT title the shortest. You cruise past Conners and Borg and others, and you barely retire and along comes Fed? Really?
Then Nadal?
Then Djoker?
Really?
If I had one match for my life, and you took Djoker or Fed, I’d be ok getting Pete.

Nowdays tennis became dull and almost unwatchable. All the same all over.
