It's some fifty years ago when I first heard Paxton in a concert he gave in Glasgow in the late 60's. I've had this marvellous folksinger/songwriters 'on my ears' ever since. How I whish I could turn my life back to that time... which of course is not possible, but when I put Paxton on my ears... and close my eyes... I am nearly there! Thanks for sharing, mate!

This is one of the songs I sang as a young Folk singer . Tom Paxton wrote some beautiful Songs and I still I love singing them. Especially this one and Jimmy Newman.

Yes, the Troubadour, was a great, great folk club in London, in Earl's Court on Old Brompton Road, about a 5 minute walk from the Underground Station. I used to hang out there years ago, when I visited London.
The main room when you walked in was where they sold all kinds of coffee's. I always ordered their great cappachino. The music rooom was downstairs & I once read my poetry there on stage on poetry night. Music was great, so many folk singers played there! I used to hang out there a lot.

In the late 60s and early 70s a friend (Keith Aitken) and I were lucky enough to work with Pan Am. Whenever we could we would go to Tom's concerts, no matter in the world they happened to be. When in London we also used to visit the Troubadour. Did a couple of numbers there on open mike nights. Great memories of my youth. Do the young to-day have such great memories?

Don't know about the girl, but I presume it is the "Troubadour" in Earls Court, which was a bit of an artists and musicians hangout in the 1950s and 1960s, he is referring to

I read in a jacket liner once that he wrote this for his wife...I'm not sure, but I think they've been married a long time.

The Troubadour (mentioned at 2m07s) has been forced to close because neighbours were complaining about the noise... a bit like moving in next door to an airport, then complaining...

Good to see the original thanks for posting. Anyone know the background to this? Was there a pub in London called The troubador? Does the woman exist ?

@rodneydeb1 The Troubadour still exists in Earls Court .. still good live music downstairs, tho' a bit 'trendy' and pricier up in the coffee/bistro area these days.

Sounds just the same, but like me he is getting old....

All his love songs are about his late wife, Annie.

One of my very favorite songs by one of my very favorite singers, all my life.
But that mechanical "transcript" is so screamingly awful that you should just get rid of it, there are way too many errors to be worth correcting. I was contemplating typing in a corrected version, or a list of the misrecognitions, but there's just no point in that. No human could have made that many godawful errors, even if they weren't a native English speaker.*
*That's no exaggeration: For 12 years I was Senior Linguist at Dragon Systems, creators of the first practical multi-user large-vocabulary computer dictation systems, DragonDictate and Dragon NaturallySpeaking, and I know what I'm talking about.
