We're back with LGBTQ+ historian Sacha Coward for the slightly later than planned final episode of his series about mythical creatures and their connection to the queer community. This episode is all about mermaids, from the Syrain goddess Atargatis to the popular classic The Little Mermaid, we explore the LGBTQ+ community's affinity with these ancient creatures, all inspired by objects from the museum's collection #LGBTHM21

Beautiful video, love the connections to queer culture. Thanks for putting into words such a deep experience.
Fun fact, the greek word is the same for wing, as it is for tail... perhaps an explanation of how sirens depiction of a winged and tailed creature came to be simultaneous

Aquamarine is a massively gay film too- her nails changing colours of the rainbow when she's around the girls- and always staying a neutral silver whenever she is with the guy. There's a scene with the janitor running into the girls, and he holds up a M or W sign.... mermaid or women? I always thought Men, or Woman? More connection to the transformation and queer representation I'm loving it <3
