ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Margot and I am a professional artist and graphic designer. My parents like to joke that I was born with a paintbrush in hand. I started my career after graduating from the renown Parsons School of Design in New York City and spent over 15 years creating and designing for many of the world's top Fortune 500 brands and companies. My painting journey started as a side project and a creative outlet for me to step away from the computer, go back to my "roots" in fine art and to hone my skills as an illustrator and painter. I started posting some of my work on instagram and the rest is history. My work is inspired by all the things that I am passionate about. Ballet, travel, graphic design, color and finding a world of beauty in all facets of everyday life. I hope you'll join me in this YouTube journey as I take you through all the tips, tricks and trade secrets I've gathered throughout the years. I hope I can teach you some of what I know, help you discover your creative voice and I hope you enjoy this Channel!

Note to all, after the video posted I realized I got my pigment numbers mixed up and I was in fact using PR122 (Magenta) in lieu of PV19. PR122 and PV19 are both part of the quinacridone family so they will be lightfast no matter what. The “secret” ingredient stays the same PR207 (Quin Warm Scarlet) so I would just suggest that you see what you like best. Quin Pink also works very well, just a slight different end hue 👍

Now Roman needs to make it into a single color and call it Margot Pink or Ballet Pink❤

Opra pink and opera rose are my all time favorites. I can’t thank you enough for figuring this out. As delighted as I am to receive your information, I am absolutely thrilled with your performance. I’d rather watch you than anything on TV. I love the way you create a story. Always captivating and humorous. You make me happy. 💕💜

I love that you have found a solution to the Opera Pink conundrum. Perhaps Roman Szmal will bring out a Pink called "Margot" in honour of you and your quest. I think that would be amazing. DS moonglow would be my favourite "fugitive" colour (at least at the moment) 🤣😂. It has the ability to be dark and dramatic or light, delicate, and whimsical.

You are so amazing and I'm being serious. You're such a Renaissance woman. To be a ballet dancer, an artist in one of the most challenging artistic mediums out there, an actor, a director, and a videographer is incredible. Thank you so much for the new "Margot rose" and great job on your video!!!

I love this video. Your sense of humor and dedication to creating valuable and entertaining art videos, and in this case, finding the perfect alternative to opera pink, is so appreciated. Oh yes, and ballet! Love love love. Thank you. 💖

I love Winsor and Newtons and Sennelier opera rose, i use them despite the fugitive connotations, but i have no intentions of being a famous artist, i started painting in my 60s so its a hobby for me, but if i want to hang one of my masterpieces 😊 on the wall, this is a fabulous solution, thank you Margot, i love your energy ♥️

This is awesome!! I have for years wanted to have an opera rose in my paint sets but none of the set I have purchased had it and I just never reached out and bought a single tube as they are so expensive and I just made due with permanent rose. So I went to check my mission gold pure pigment set of watercolors and wouldn't you know I have those same 2 exact pigments needed to make a Lightfast opera rose. I proceeded to test them and it looks as if it worked well enough, granted I don't have to actual color to compare it to. I then went on to see if any of my students grade watercolors had similar colors to mix and see if it would work. Obviously they won't be lightfast with students paints but I have them and use them greatly will be teaching a class with them at our homeschool group. The Mei Liang Pretty Excellent palette permanent rose and scarlet lake mixed beautifully to make this opera rose color I have been wanting since I started watercolor back in 2021. Thanks you Margot for all your hard work to find this color combo. I'm so excited about it! Now I think my set of mission gold combo is lightfast as they are professional grade, but it great that it's works with student grade as well. Color mixing is so fun to me and I'm always blown away at the results! I do have a question: if I use dorland's wax to finish and seal a painting does that protect it from UV and light fading?

This is genius, for having cracked this pretty pink code!!! Now all Roman Szmal has to do is combine those 2 pigments and bring it out as a new color, named after you (hopefully)... and we will all SCREAM with delight and buy it as soon as possible! I actually avoided opera pink altogether because of the fugitiveness - and because I was certain that I'd fall in love with it too, thus spawning a love-hate relationship since it refuses to live up to my lightfastness expectations. Because nobody needs that kinda drama when they're trying to relax with their watercolors, LOL 😅😉

Dear Margot, your friend Roman Szmal has just released the colors: Quinacridone Rose, Quinacridone Warm Pink and Quinacridone Magenta Intense ... Is any of those possibly your special Margot's pink blend ? :)

Even the name "opera" is so you ! And wow, this scarlet looks amazing ! So glowing ! (I am team pigment-nerd, I need it now 😅). My favorite green is PG8 from white night, it's just the perfect shade for me, not as fugitive as opera pink, but my 30 years old paintings... wait, what ?! 😳 I started painting quite young but still, 30 ?!!, OMG! 😵‍💫... Anyway, they faded... Since I have tried a lot of green pigments, but PG8 is still the pretiest to me ❤

You really found the holy grail of a lightfast Opera Rose?!?! If so, you deserve a medal! I have avoided it completely, but I am ready for a little bright pink in my florals!

Clever. Just FYI, I have heard quite a few people say that W&N Opera is much more lightfast than one would imagine (people who've conducted their own tests).

Ooooh- I have avoided buying opera pink b/c of the lightfastness issues, in spite of my favourite colour being pink!!! … and, (and how amazing is this) I think I have both of the necessary Roman Szmal colours!!!😮😮😮🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 I MUST try it!

Oh great 😊! My favorites are Quinacridone Rose & Quinacridone Magenta. That’s such a great idea to mix those 2 colors. I’m definitely going to give that mixture a try. Thanks so much for sharing this great video filled with fantastic content & information.💕
