The Falcon
Childhood:
One day a falcon is born
In a nest up a tree
He spreads his wings
And looks at the sea
His mother is coming
She feeds him with care
He eats and then rests
With his family there
He tries to fly
From the edge of a cliff
He falls once then twice
But in the end he succeeds
Adolescence/Youth:
He is finally free
His efforts have paid off
But then he is astonished
Seeing the world from above
He sees the injustice
He sees the despair
He sees that life
Is a cruel affair
He vows this must change
Once and for all
He can’t stand seeing
The world’s downfall
So “We are all equal”
He’d soon proclaim
Our society is strong
Divided we’ll fail
One day he falls in love
His whole life just changed
When he looks at her eyes
He feels that he is saved
They have a relation
Once strong and once frail
But one day it’s over
Like a sweet fairytale
He feels so enraged
And also depressed
He feels so alone
Like an unwanted guest
Adult life:
Society starts to fail him
It was all just a scam
He sits alone and wonders
“What have I become?”
He’s now more mature
Than he was before
His adult life
Is a huge inner war
But now he is more confident
‘Cause he’s just found a job
With it he can feed himself
So that he carries on
He works with devotion
No time for regrets
Or his feelings will get him
And he’ll live in distress
Middle-aged:
He just feels so empty
With no one around
He works for a living
In a faceless town
He at last has the money
He is comfortable enough
His old ideas
Belong in the past
But his soul is a void
His eyes are wet
And his miserable life
Alas is not over yet
More years will pass
He will then lose count
His will is depleted
And so is his bank account
His wings they ache
Every time he gets up
But he must carry on
Until it gets dark
Old:
One day the falcon gets old
He can no longer fly
He knows that without food
He will slowly die
So he takes a deep breath
And looks at the sky
And wonders out loud
“Was life worthwhile?”
Life is full of sadness
And of hopeful dreaming
When you combine the two
Your life has a meaning
Your life has a meaning
All clouds they are leaving
And the old tired falcon
At last starts believing
