Have you ever heard of the water monster? Or, the salamander that never ages? Or, perhaps, the axolotl?

As masters at regeneration, these strange yet intriguing creatures are so good at healing themselves, they can regenerate body parts from limbs, spines, eyes, to their brains! 😲

What if humans could do the same? For the first time, BGI has used its Stereo-seq technology to construct the world’s first spatiotemporal cellular atlas of the axolotl’s brain development and regeneration, revealing how a brain injury can heal itself.

"Using axolotl as a model organism, we have identified key cell types in the process of brain regeneration. This discovery will provide new ideas and guidance for regenerative medicine in the mammalian nervous system," explained Dr. Ying Gu, joint corresponding author of the paper, BGI. 🔬
