My new favourite phrase: "strains the bounds of plausibility."🙂

In Spanish abra cadaver means open up a dead body. But I doubt that has anything to do with abracadabra either.

The Assyrians used the term “Abracadabra” as a form of incantation or amulet to ward off illness or evil spirits. It was often inscribed on amulets in a triangular pattern to provide protection. The pronunciation might have varied, but in an ancient Aramaic dialect, it could have sounded something like “Avrah K’davra.” This phrase roughly translates to “I will create as I speak.”The triangular shape was traditionally used because it was believed to help diminish the ailment or negative energy. As the word “Abracadabra” was written, each line would drop a letter, forming a triangle, symbolizing the gradual reduction of the ailment until it disappeared. This was thought to amplify the charm’s protective power. Yes, the triangle also holds symbolic meaning in many cultures. It can represent balance, harmony, and the trinity of mind, body, and spirit. In the context of “Abracadabra, ” the triangular form might have been seen as amplifying the protective and healing properties of the charm, making it a powerful talisman. but you can imagine an amulet shaped like a triangle. It would typically have “Abracadabra” inscribed in a diminishing form, like this:

ABRACADABRA
ABRACADABR
ABRACADA
ABRACAD
ABRACA
ABRAC
ABRA
ABR
AB
A

It’s meant to speak over oneself, offering protection as the letters decrease.

We probably remember the word today because of the German magician Erik Jan Hanussen, who used abracadabra to great effect in his mentalism shows. His popularity would lead to him being spoofed by Bugs Bunny in "The Case of the Missing Hare" which played on American TV well into the 90s, cementing the phrase into American minds.

Well.. Aramaic and Hebrew ( original Hebrew, not the Hebrew we know today) go hand and hand. Aramaic was the universal language similar to
What English is today. And the accent of the words have obviously changed over the past 2000 years. Soooo it probably did come form
Aramaic

I'm going to think on this...

I have a pretty decent idea how magic gets formed.

I would posit, shooting from the hip, that without masoretic vowel points the consonants had the short a inserted between letters to make it speakable.

That it's not the exact pronunciation of the language is not relevant really as much as that the cohort says it the same or in a similar way.

ABRCDBR is with what I'm guessing the early mages were working.

I don't know how much Hebrew got into our western esoteric tradition or when. We like to think it's a lot and very early, but I could see that bit being made up in the 1800's. I'll look more into it.

So if it were Hebrew, would you pronounce it as Evre Dibber?

tbf.. hocus pocus is also fairly misheard leap from hoc est corpus, so maybe not that far out of bounds, to have something similar happen w abra-cadabra

This video brings my thoughts to the Lord of the Ring 😁 Somewhere in the books they tackle this as the stories about the gods has been "dumbed" down for the living races to be able to understand them. So in my head we have put God into our plane of reference so that we easier can grasp the concept.

Abracadabra isn't necessarily Hebrew, but is instead Aramaic.

How would this be so hard to understand when the name Yeshua was eventually transliterated into Jesus....EVEN THOUGH the name Joshuq had already been established as a better english option.

A respectful question. Are you a believer in Christ being the son of God? I realise with your knowledge it's easy to twist and turn the answer, without actually answering it. What are your beliefs?
