In John Logie Baird: The Man Who Invented Television Scottish history tour guide Bruce Fummey tells one of the glorious and sad tales from Scotlands history, of the Scottish inventor of the television. Walking from his home in Helensburgh to his gravestone and stopping at points of memorialisation in the town along the way.

Scotland History Tours is here for people who want to learn about Scottish history and get ideas for Scottish history tours. I try to make videos which tell you tales from Scotland's past and give you information about key dates in Scottish history and historical places to visit in Scotland. Not all videos are tales from Scotland's history, some of them are about men from Scotland's past or women from Scotland's past. Basically the people who made Scotland. From April 2020 onward I've tried to give ideas for historic days out in Scotland. Essentially these are days out in Scotland for adults who are interested in historical places to visit in Scotland.

As one of Scotland history tour guides people ask: Help me plan a Scottish holiday, or help me plan a Scottish vacation of your from the US. So from April 2020 I've tried to give a bit of history, but some places of interest in Scotland as well.

Thank you again Bruce for teaching me something I knew nothing about. It's a crying shame that John Logie Baird didn't get more acknowledgment. His story would make for a great film.

At 22 Firth street in Soho London, near the Italian coffee house there is a blue plaque high on the wall. This plaque commemorates where John Logie Baird in 1926 made the worlds first Television broadcast. After setting up his equipment Baird rushed into the street wearing only baggy flannel trousers and no socks but managed to convince William Taynton a 20 year old office boy to participate in his experiment. Taynton readily agreed and was sat in a room in front of Baird equipment while Baird went into another room to operate the receiver and it was there he saw the grainy image of the man appear, as it like magic before his eyes.
That night in Soho, history was made!

What a nice heartfelt short history of Baird's achievements Bruce. Maybe Baird was our Scottish Nikola Tesla, equally badly treated?

The Logies are the Australian tv awards named after him. Gold Logie is for the most popular tv personality.

This was another great video. My first cousin (twice removed) Philo T Farnsworth invented the first fully electronic television. I believe Baird was mechanical. Baird was definitely was a man way ahead of his time. My grandfather use to say that Philo stole his ideas as he made one of the cameras on the first moon lander, he was fairly brilliant as well. Philo has his statue in the capitol rotunda in DC. Good lot of people to have statues to.

He gave the world the ability to sit in their lounge and see Archie Gemmill score that tremendous goal for Scotland in the World Cup.

Literally decades ahead of his time - his struggles - it actually brings tear to the eye.

I think Tracy Island is one of most people's fondest memories of Blue Peter.

That, and the dogs roaming the studio 🥰
