What terrifies me is that before all of this and even the Titanic sunk itself, a book was written in 1898 about a British ocean liner called the 'Titan' that was the newest and fastest ship in the world, but struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic and sank. Not only did the Titanic go and follow the exact same fate 14 years later, but the name of this missing submarine is 'Titan'. I feel for these people and for their families, I hope that they are rescued and they are well. I wonder how much is enough with these expeditions, there having been countless trips and thousands of images are available for the public to view. My great grandfather was a titanic survivor, he always thought of the wreck as a gravesite. I think it is time to let it alone.

I was on the 1996/98 Expedition for the "Big Piece". I just found out that my good friend of mine P.H was the Pilot of this. I am really surprised to see PH took this thing down. now he is a VERY Experience Diver. knows the area very well, however the currents are very hostile in that area, and things can be moved around very easily. I am praying for him and ALL the crew of this dive be found.

I wouldn't call a hull breach the worst case scenario. Waiting 4 days for your air to run out hoping some one will save you only to suffocate is far worse than your submarine suffering a sudden decompression killing you so fast you haven't even realized there is a problem. I know someone who was in hospital with Hypocarbia and they said it was the most terrifying experience of their life. I can go into how they described the feeling but it is heart wrenching.

Hopefully they survive the titanic wreck site is already depressing and sad enough, I hope they survive, Sam thanks you for all the updates on this.

They may be able to find out if the submersible literally imploded in the depths of Atlantic. Reason: the US Navy built (and still mostly maintains) a very large undersea floor hydrophone network in the North Atlantic with very sensitive hydrophones to track Soviet submarines during the Cold War. Those hydrophones may have been sensitive enough to hear the very distinct cracking or crunching sounds of a submersible imploding, and if confirmed, condolences to the five people on board. ☹

if they are alive, i can only imagine the existential horror of being stuck in there in the abyss of the ocean and knowing you're losing air. cramped up against a few strangers. it's awful

One thing not mentioned is that they are bolted in from the outside. So if they made it to the surface and are waiting to be found, once the o2 runs out, they will die. I can’t figure out why they wouldn’t make it possible to open it from the inside!

When things go wrong on or around Titanic, they seem to go very wrong, very fast..

I'm still crossing my fingers for the best, but it's starting to be very difficult to imagine that something didn't go wrong.

Sam, I just read a report that an Oceangate Quality Control Specialist was denied information as to Titans forward viewport. That given its design it could only be certified to 1300 meters. Criminal.
