My lawn is looking great this year thanks to your fertilizer tips. Need a fix to get rid of the Utah night crawlers that are making my lawn real bumpy and hard to mow.

Ah food for thought big guy. I usually do two weed and feeds then come back early to mid summer with a triple 16. I think I’ll do a soil test to see where I am. I also have some orchard grass that I’d like to get rid of. Your the best.

When I first bought my house I did use the Scott’s program for the first couple of years and it seemed to work ok but the older and wiser and more experience I got, I started researching and trying other products and while I was okay with the Scott’s I’m much happier using other products on my yard now

Very well said Ginja. I've never been a fan of these generic "step" programs. 👍🏼

GINJA! 😀

So nice to see you again!

Yah—

—with the postage stamp lawn I take care of there's always left over fertilizer out of any bag cuz they're rarely sold for less than 15 lb.

But I credit you in one of your videos and I paid attention to soil temperatures this year. Normally, I would throw the Step 1 nitrogen and crabgrass control bag on at the end of March or beginning of April and think nothing of it.

However, this year April was unseasonably cold and wet here in Chicago. This is how crabgrass probably got me in prior years! The weather was too cold or too wet and then tick-tick goes the clock and the effectiveness runs out around June and then follows the crabgrass sprouting. So I waited and waited and waited and

Finally out of the blue comes in 85° day! This was followed by a 92° day! I was like oh *bleep*....*Oh bleep*.... A few days later I put a temperature probe for soil and sure enough it was 62 degrees Fahrenheit. I got the crabgrass preventer on as fast as I could after that.

But then I got lime green grass that was thin and starving for food! It's just now turning dark green due to nitrogen put on last week both foliarly and granularly. Because the crabgrass stuff was in with the nitrogen I didn't put the nitrogen on when I really wanted to in April because I didn't want to put the crab grass stuff on in April. This is why I'm not buying any more combination bags. I understand if a person that has 10 acres of lawn that the combination is going to be useful but for my postage stamp I don't mind walking it three or four times for three or four different products.

I will say that Step 1 did come in a nice small golf-course quality same-size granules...

I do have some of the cheaper no-name fertilizer and each of the NPK granules are different size— hah hah hah. Not as critical with my drop spreader but I wouldn't want to use these cheap fertilizers with the rotary spreader.

Hello Ginja! I recently was briefed on the K+ pump in how it may help how the grass utilizes water during the heat of summer.

The Scott's 4- Step works for my Bluegrass lawn better than any commercial lawn care business I've used. Of course there will be some intermittent weeds that pop up between apps, which is why a $9 bottle of Spectracide attached to a hose will take care of that. No need for overpriced chemicals and no time wasted on DIY home lab mixtures per 1000 sq ft. Results may vary for your lawn, but my routine is the most time efficient, results proven and cost effective I've seen yet
